Conference Theme: Navigating a Sea of Conflicts

The oceans are at once a source of opportunity and of conflict — a space vital to trade, security, and the environment, yet still largely unknown to humanity. As globalization accelerates, the seas have become arenas where cooperation and rivalry collide: from new Arctic trade routes to piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, from naval rearmament to disputes in the South China Sea, and from the environmental cost of military activity to the urgent need for protection of marine ecosystems.

At ErMUN 2025, we invite delegates to navigate these interconnected challenges. By debating across economic, environmental, and security perspectives, students will confront the complexity of maritime issues and reflect on how diplomacy can transform the sea from a frontier of conflict into a horizon of cooperation.
